A lot of people experience (visually) the power of the Dua' real of the unseen via the states "not entirely awake nor asleep. This maybe due to the link between consciousness, the ruh, nafs (soul/spirit) and its connection to the body, the ruh/nafs debated as to whether they are the same thing or not within Islamic discourse.
